Tula Mission Statement

Angela Hedlund (known on stage as Allura DeMure)  I started social dancing in college and has turned it into a profession;  studying, teaching, and performing around the world.I began with Latin dance, specializing in Salsa dancing (L.A. & Cuban style) which includes other Latin styles such as Bachata, Merengue, Cha-Cha-Cha, Casino-Rueda & Son.  I moved overseas to Spain for a year and began teaching ladies styling while literally expanding my dance horizons. Throughout the years, I have been part of many local Minneapolis dance teams including:

  • The SalSubZeras (choreographed by Niko Salgado, 2009); performed at the 2009 Chicago Salsa Festival & local twin cities venues
  • Minneami Rueda (2009 & 2010); 2x winners of the Twin Cities Open dance competition for group dance
  • Rueda de la Calle (2010 – Present); performed at the 2011 San Francisco Rueda Congress & for numerous local events every year including the Minnesota State Fair, Minnesota Historical Society & more!

I expanded into Belly Dance and Hip Hop shortly after beginning my Latin dance career, and it was love at first shimmy. I was in 2 short-lived salsa-belly dance fusion groups at Social Dance Studio; as well as a Hip Hop group choreographed by local talent and friend Jae Haile Phillips in 2010-11. I have been a principal dancer of The Bourgeois Bohemians dance company,  since 2011.

  • The Bourgeois Bohemians are the main attraction at Xonxono Baro; a recurring, theatrical, belly dance variety show, currently at the Amsterdam Bar in St. Paul. Allura and The Bourgeois Bohemians have also presented at the MN Renaissance Festival, MN Guild of Oriental Dance showcases, as well as many other local haflas and festivals.

In June 2012, I partnered with local talent Sarrah Rose to choreograph and present at Tribal Revolution Bellydance Festival; one of the nation’s largest and most respected belly dance festivals!
