Yoga Therapy with Ann
SomaYoga Therapy is a blending of neuroscience with ancient yoga and Ayurveda practices. This is a powerful approach to health and well-being because we are creating new pathways to wellness with your participation. Here’s a brief overview of SomaYoga Therapy and what to expect in a session.
After years of study and practice, I draw from many modalities to create recommendations and practices for your health and well-being. We will work on many levels: physical body, energy body, and mind through movement, breath, meditation, philosophy, self-care practices, food, and sound, to name a few. I also include Craniosacral Therapy in sessions. The body will reveal what is needed.
SomaYoga Therapy is a unique blending of work that includes:
Neuromuscular re-education with Somatics to undo the effects of stress, trauma, habit, and fatigue on the body and mind. This modality creates freedom in many ways.
Classic asana to strengthen and stabilize.
Therapeutic yoga to stabilize and understand the range of movement & possible areas of compensation.
Traditional pranayama (breath practices to affect the nervous system and your energy).
Traditional yogic philosophy from the Himalayan Tradition of Swami Rama
Traditional yogic meditation and training of the mind
Personal development
Ayurveda
Craniosacral Therapy is also available and included. Craniosacral therapy (CST) works on fascia, a thin, flexible membrane that surrounds muscles, bones, and organs. CST releases tight, twisted fascia fibers, creating freedom in the body, improving function, and supporting the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) system, thereby benefiting overall physical and mental well-being. The cerebrospinal fluid system delivers nutrients and removes waste products from the brain and central nervous system, stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (the relaxation response), and provides a protective, supportive environment for the brain and spinal cord. With CST, we use directed energy to gently unwind the fascia and joints.
Who benefits from SomaYoga Therapy and Craniosacral Therapy? Everyone! It is a safe practice for all, whether you experience chronic pain, have limited mobility, or are an athlete. It is especially beneficial for those who want to learn energy or stress management, practice mindfulness, calm negative self-talk, or who suffer from back pain, knee pain, neck pain, recovering from an injury, arthritis, pelvic floor health, osteopenia/osteoporosis, plantar fascitis, scoliosis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety, depression, insomnia, PTSD, and more. Our first session is 1.5 hours and includes intake (health history, current activities, goals, etc), giving insight into our practices together. We can address managing stress, improving digestion, sleep, pain, tension, etc. Based on intake and our practice together, I will design a plan for you to do between sessions, which may include movement, pranayama (breath practices), meditation, Ayurveda self-care practices, and/or personal development practices. During our session, I will explain why the neuromuscular re-education approach is such a powerful modality and how you are empowered to create change.
I will provide you with recommendations and design practices tailored to your needs, along with guidance on how to incorporate them into your daily routines and lifestyle. I will be careful not to overload you with too much “to do.” These practices include recommendations, as well as audio and/or video content to help you learn. We can create shifts in our sessions; however, to progress, you will need to commit to your ongoing practice. Creating change is a process. This is not a band-aid or “one & done” approach. This takes commitment to unwind the body, regulate the nervous system, strengthen, and work toward your goals.
